Welcome to Bracken Memorial Library

Bracken Memorial Library serves as both the high school library for Woodstock Academy and as one of the four public libraries in the town of Woodstock.

Town patrons are welcome at the library during all hours that the library is open, including during the school day. 

If you have not been here in awhile, stop by and see all of the changes.

Discount Passes

The library has discount passes to Mystic Aquarium, Roger Williams Park Zoo, the Old State House, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. 

If you are planning a trip to any of these places, please stop by the library to ask about checking out the pass for the weekend. 

We also have one-day parking passes to the Connecticut State Parks.

Library Hours

Monday — Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Summer Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Holiday and school vacation hours vary.

Doing Research?

Bracken Memorial Library Card Catalog: Find books in the library and use WebPath Express to search the Internet for great websites.

Request: If we do not have the book you want, you can request it here from another library in the state of Connecticut. Books usually arrive at Bracken Memorial Library 1-2 weeks after you submit your request.

Overdrive: Use Overdrive to download eBooks to your e-reader, or audio books to your iPod or MP3 player, for free! All you need is your library barcode number which can you can get from Mrs. Sharpe or Mrs. Laprade. There are over 2,000 titles available.

iCONN: iCONN is a service provided by the Connecticut State Library. Select “High School” library resources to access many great databases including Biography in Context, US History in Context, World History in Context, Health and Wellness Resource Center, Science in Context, Academic OneFile. You can also access old issues of the Hartford Courant dating back to 1764 and many free eBooks.

Lending Policy:

Books and non-current periodicals can be borrowed for a period of two weeks. Renewals are permitted as long as there is no waiting list. Reference books, such as encyclopedias, do not circulate. Books that are not available in the library may be able to be obtained through inter-library loan.

Computer Resources:

The library currently offers 48 computers for patron use. They all have Internet access as well as Microsoft Office and a wide array of electronic research tools. Access to many online periodicals, journals, and newspapers are available for use in the library and from home.

Library Cards:

Library cards can be obtained by any resident of the town of Woodstock. These cards can also be used to check out books at any public library in Connecticut. If you are not from Woodstock, you must get a library card from the library in the town in which you live. This card can then be used at Bracken Memorial Library as well as in all public libraries in Connecticut.
