Woodstock Academy held its first “Alumni Speakers Week” during the week of December 19, 2011. Over 50 Woodstock Academy Alumni and family members visited the Academy campus, meeting with faculty, staff, and students, and touring the campus. The campus atmosphere was bustling with energy and enthusiasm, welcoming and engaging alumni in a unique opportunity to share their expertise and experiences with our current students.
Twenty-five alumni gave presentations on various topics in Academy classes throughout the week. Each alumni speaker was matched with a course relevant to their topic in the curriculum and graciously hosted by Academy faculty and students in the classroom. A broad range of topics were covered by our talented and experienced alumni including entrepreneurship, military careers and experiences, criminal justice, child development, clinical psychology, teaching, travel, the Peace Corps, missionary work, local history, drug research and development, writing and poetry, business, manufacturing, and college transitions and preparation.
All of our alumni were able to share their Academy experiences as well, covering every decade from the 1940’s to 2010. On Wednesday, visiting alumni were invited to join in a holiday luncheon with all faculty and staff. Encouraged by the positive feedback from alumni, faculty and students, Woodstock Academy is planning to make this an annual event.
