College Application Process

  1. Complete & submit college application(s) on line.
  2. Application fee will be submitted on line when application is submitted
  3. Request online for your SAT and/or ACT scores be sent to the colleges you are applying to.
  4. Complete a “College Application Sheet” in the counseling office for each college you are applying to. This sheet must be submitted to the counseling office at least 2 weeks prior to your college deadline. The office will send your high school transcript after you submit the form.
  5. Request that the teachers who are writing your letter of recommendation email your letter to your school counselor at least 2 weeks before the college deadline.

 

Senior College Planning Checklist: Fall

 

□ Request teacher recommendations

  • Request a minimum of 2 recommendations. Please use the Request for Teacher Recommendation Form.
  • If you requested letters in the spring and did not receive them, follow-up with the teacher and let them know when your first deadline is. They will need to email it to your counselor at least 2 weeks before the deadline.

□ Complete your personal resume

  • Submit to your Counselor ASAP.
  • Update as needed.
  • You can find a “sample resume here” or on Naviance under “document library”.

□ Register for SAT and/or ACT as needed. SAT/ACT links.

□ Send your standardized test scores (if required) to each college you are applying to.

□ Complete a “College Application Form” for each college you are applying to.  (Located in the counseling office)

□ Complete the FERPA on Naviance. We cannot submit your materials to colleges until this is complete.

□ Enter the colleges you are interested in applying to on Naviance under “Colleges I Am Thinking About” (NOTE: DO NOT add colleges to the “Colleges I Am  Applying To”)

□ Sign up on Naviance to meet with College Representatives who are visiting Woodstock Academy.

□ Complete College Application(s) On Line

  • BE AWARE OF DEADLINES! (Early Action/Early Decision/Regular/Rolling)

 □ Write college application essay(s)

  • Complete your college essays with care (revise/edit/proofread)

 □ Complete “Feedback Forms” (parent, student, teacher & peer)

  • Submit these forms to your Counselor at least 2 weeks prior to college application deadline.
  • Copies of the forms can be obtained on Naviance under “document library”

 □ College Visits/Revisits & Interviewing

 □ Financial Aid

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): Apply for your “pin” in November/December at www.pin.ed.gov, You must have a pin in order to submit the FAFSA. Be sure to submit the FAFSA ASAP, note that it cannot be submitted prior to January 1. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov for instructions &/or to begin completing the form.
  • CSS Profile: a select number of private colleges require this financial aid form in addition to the FAFSA. To learn more about the CSS Profile go to Collegeboard.

 □ Scholarships

  • Access the scholarship list from the Naviance website. Click on “Scholarship List” under “About Colleges”
  • Visit Fastweb to research scholarships

 □ Thank you notes

  • Make sure to write a thank you note to those who have written you a letter of recommendation
  • Consider sending a thank you note to an admissions rep after a visit.
